Patrick Mbah Okwen is a medical doctor and health economist practicing at a district hospital in Cameroon and a research fellow at the Centre for Development of Best Practice in Health (CDBPH) Cameroon. He is the lead of Guidelines International Network African Community and member of the Cochrane African Network within the Cochrane Francophone Hub. He is a fellow of the prestigious Aubrey Sheiham Award for Evidence-Based Practice in Africa for 2016 and a Joanna Briggs Clinical Fellow. Dr Okwen is involved in primary research, evidence synthesis and evidence implementation in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). He is also a senior health consultant with the World Bank, WHO, UNFPA, GIZ, Cricket Without Boundary and the Pan African Society of Cardiology, amongst others. He has vast experience in designing primary healthcare programmes and impact evaluation of health interventions. He is also a peer reviewer with Cochrane, Guidelines International Network conferences, and International Society for Pharmaco-Economics and Outcome Research (ISPOR) conferences. He has a Research Gate score of 21.4.

Patrick is passionate about evidence-based healthcare, mother and child health, mHealth and community mobilisation and participation in healthcare decision making. He also believes development agencies in LMIC active in basic services (health, education, water sanitation and hygiene and local governance) still need to do more to ensure their practice is evidence-based.
